Why We Started Pretty Proven: From Healthcare Careers To Female Founders

If you'd asked us ten years ago whether we'd one day be running a women's health business together, the answer would have been simple:

Maybe.

We always knew we wanted to build something together.

What we didn't know was what that something would be, or when the timing would feel right.

Like many women, we spent years building careers, raising families, supporting others and focusing on what was immediately in front of us. Between healthcare, motherhood, relationships and the everyday responsibilities that come with adult life, starting a business always felt like something that would happen "one day".

The reality is, one day has a habit of never arriving.

The Problem We Couldn't Ignore

After more than 15 years working across healthcare, pharmacy and patient education, we began noticing the same pattern again and again.

Women were actively trying to improve their health.

They were researching, reading, listening to podcasts, following experts, investing in themselves.

Yet despite having access to more information than ever before, many women seemed more confused than ever.

Questions about hormones, gut health, fertility, supplements, skin health and preventative healthcare were becoming increasingly common.

The problem wasn't that women weren't seeking information.

The problem was knowing who and what to trust.

As healthcare professionals, we found ourselves having the same conversations repeatedly. As women, we understood exactly why.

Health had become noisy. And when health becomes noisy, confidence suffers.

Starting A Business Was Never The Goal

One of the biggest misconceptions about entrepreneurship is that founders wake up one day with a dream of starting a business. That wasn't our experience.

Pretty Proven wasn't created because we wanted to become entrepreneurs.

It was created because we cared deeply about solving a problem.

The idea was born during a conversation between two sisters who were increasingly frustrated by what they were seeing.

Women were overwhelmed by conflicting health advice.

Healthcare conversations were becoming harder to navigate.

And trustworthy, evidence-based education often felt difficult to access.

We realised there was an opportunity to create something different. Not another wellness brand. Not another product.

But a platform focused on helping women better understand their health.

The Reality Of Being Female Founders

One thing we've learned since launching Pretty Proven is that most women aren't lacking ideas. They're lacking permission. Permission to start before everything is perfect. Permission to change direction. Permission to back themselves.

Permission to build something while still figuring things out.

As female founders, mothers and healthcare professionals, we understand those doubts well.

There is rarely a perfect time to start a business. There will always be work commitments, family responsibilities and reasons to wait.

What finally pushed us forward wasn't confidence.

It was conviction.

The belief that the problem was important enough to solve.

Why Women Need To Stop Comparing Their Timelines

Another lesson we've learned is that success doesn't follow a universal timeline.

It's easy to look around and feel like everyone else is further ahead.

Social media often celebrates outcomes while ignoring the years of experience, setbacks, learning and growth that happen behind the scenes.

Looking back, there were moments in our lives that felt like detours.

In reality, they were preparation.

Every role, every challenge and every chapter helped shape the women we are today and ultimately contributed to the creation of Pretty Proven.

At 30, we couldn't have built this business.

Not because we weren't capable.

Because we weren't ready yet.

The experiences came first.

The business came later.

Building The Future Of Women's Health Education

Today, Pretty Proven exists to help women cut through confusion and access evidence-based health information they can trust.

But beyond women's health, we also hope our story encourages other women to back themselves. You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin.

You don't need the perfect business plan. You don't need certainty.Sometimes the first step is simply deciding that an idea is worth pursuing.

For us, Pretty Proven started as a conversation between sisters.

Today, it's a growing community of women who believe health information should be empowering, accessible and evidence-based.

And we're only just getting started.
